Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation 2014 Highlights

Kani village High School building construction

With your support and donations, Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation is able to continue with the following activities and projects in 2014.

1. Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation donated US$1,000 to 3hird Medium (3M) in New York for their efforts in providing support for orphans and orphanages in Myanmar.

2. Continues providing monthly support of about $100 (100,000 kyats equivalent) to each to the following orphanages
   a. Mingalar Orphanage, Twantay Township, Myanmar
   b. Mya Theingi Orphanage, Yangon, Myanmar
   c. Kani Orphanage at Kani Village, Pyapon, Myanmar
   d. Pyinnyar Waddy Orphange at Kyite Latt, Myanmar
   e. Pay-Chaung Parahitta in Pay Chaung village, Kyite Latt, Myanmar

3. In addition to providing tutoring support for high school students who are taking university entry exams since June 2008 school year, Moegyo continues to provide scholarship of about $120 for each university and college student at Kani village and Kyite Latt. There are 26 university and college students currently receiving Moegyo scholarship for 2014-15 school year.

4. Continues providing monthly salaries of US$100 each for 9 teachers and US$80 for a maintenance personal at the Moegyo (1) Primary School in Panthapyay village near Lashio, Shan State, Myanmar.

5. Enables a construction project of a new High School building at Kani Village in Pyapon Township in Irrawaddy Division. So far, Moegyo was able to send over US$34,000 to fulfill the proposed construction project budget of US $40,000. See the photos of the new high school building near completion.

6. Due to the increasing numbers of students at Moegyo (1) Primary School in Panthapyay village in Lashio Township, Shan State, Myanmar, MHF is adding more classrooms, toilets and living quarters for the teachers. The foundation has funded the initial amount of US$20,000 for the project to start. Combined with construction and logistics cost, MHF estimated US$40,000 in total for the whole project and estimated to be completed by the late spring of 2015. The project manager from MHF is currently at the area overseeing the activities of the project.

7. Moegyo donated $10,000 to Myanmar Book Aid & Preservation Foundation in Myanmar to cover the logistics cost to send about 50,000 books full of container to the people of Myanmar from the United States.

8. The 7th Annual Moegyo Burmese Food Fair was held in Queens, New York on Sunday June 8th, 2014 and raised over $25,000 combined with donations.

9. On Sunday November 16, 2014, the first South Florida Burmese Food Fair was organized by Moegyo volunteers at Welcome Oriental Food Market at 1282 NW Federal Hwy, Stuart, in South Florida.

All this would not have been possible without your generosity, continued support and dedication.
Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you.

Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation 2012 Highlights

2012 was yet again filled with exciting stories to share.  As we end the year, the Moegyo Team would like to take this opportunity to thank, on behalf of the orphans and vulnerable childrens in Myanmar (Burma), to all donors for their generosity and to all contributors, supporters and volunteers for their dedication and commitment.  A special note also to thank the Moegyo volunteers in Myanmar to coordinate and execute projects and programs successfully in difficult-to-reach places and that the fund provided is spent effectively.

During the summer of 2012, the Moegyo Team organized two successful fundraising activities to support five orphanages and Moegyo (1) Basic Primary School in Myanmar.

1. 5th Annual Moegyo Food Fair in New York
2. 3rd Annual Moegyo Lawn Concert in Virginia

The milestone success story for the Moegyo Team in 2012 is the completion of Water Project.  With the donations received, the Moegyo Team was able to complete the project in Panthapyay Palaung village, Northern Shan State.  After Moegyo (1) Basic Primary School was completed in 2011, we have come to realize that clean water is required at the school and for the village for sanitation and health related reasons.  The area was surveyed and located the water source from natural spring which is one and half miles away from the village.  A dedicated Moegyo volunteer coordinated the project and teamed up with the villagers/volunteers to complete the project.  Because of the running water available, the villagers, especially the children, were the least effected by the outbreak of Cholera in the summer of 2012.  Read more here.

Aftermath of the Hurricane Sandy, the Moegyo volunteers provided assistance in recovery and clean-up effort at the Midland area in Staten Island, New York, where it hit the hardest.  The foundation also sent donation to the American Red Cross for disaster relief fund for Hurricane Sandy.

During 2012, the Moegyo Team made field trips to all 5 orphanages that we have been supporting continually with your donations since the end of 2008.  The team donated school supplies, clothing, sewing machines and supplies during the visit.  The team also met with the students who we provided scholarships and discussed their future endeavors.  Read more here.

Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation also sent donation to help earthquake victims from towns and villages near Showbo, Myanmar through Myanmar Social Development Network in Yangon, Myanmar.  The magnitude of 6.8 hit near Showbo and Mandalay on 11 November 2012.  As a result of the earthquake, significant damage of buildings, bridges and some casualties were reported.  Read more here.

Again, this would not have been possible without your generosity, continued support and dedication.  Yet, many more children still need your care, love and support.  We believe we can do a lot more in coming years, with you, from helping natural disaster relief efforts to improving the life of a child.  Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you.

Moegyo Humanitarian Foundation 2010 Highlights

Another year has passed and at this time of sharing and joyful season, the Moegyo Team would like to thank all the donors, contributors, supporters and volunteers for the wonderful support given to the orphans and vulnerable children in Myanmar. We would also like to acknowledge the hard work and personal sacrifices made by the Moegyo volunteers in Myanmar to deliver the needed support to difficult-to-reach places and also to make sure that aid money is spent wisely and effectively.

2010 was an eventful year for the Moegyo Team. The Moegyo Team organized three fundraising activities to help the children.

1. 3rd Annual Moegyo Food Fair in New York
2. Moegyo participated as a food vendor at 20th Dragon Boat Festival in New York
3. 1st Annual Holiday Charity Dinner in Virginia

In addition to supporting 5 orphanages with day to day needs, we are also fortunate enough to give educational support for nine out of ten students that passed the high school exam at Kani Village Youth Development and Education center to go on to university.

1. Mingalar orphanage, Twantay
2. Mya theingyi orphage near Yangon
3. Kani Orphanage at Kani Village in Phyar Pon
4. Pyinnyar Waddy Orphanage at Kyite-latt
5. Pay-Gyaung Parahitta in Pay Gyaung village, Kyite-Latt township

Moegyo also partnered with other organizations in Myanmar and abroad and made numerous donations to several locations in the country. One of the unfortunate events was cyclone GIRI that hit South Western region that affected over 200,000 people. Moegyo was able to support the cyclone GIRI victims through the Buddhist Missionary Society Inc. in New York.

During the water-shortage crisis in the summer in Myanmar, the Moegyo team partnered with the Searchers-Myanmar team to distribute plastic buckets that can store 20 gallons of rain water.

Moegyo was able to provide support needed for a month worth of rice distribution at Myittar Kyay Mon center, a Day-care center for people living with HIV/AIDS in Mawlamyaing township.
http://blog.moegyo.org/2010/11/myitta-kyaemon-care-center.html

Moegyo gave a special gift to children with special need at Kyaik Waing Disabled Children Care Center by providing support needed to build a water tower.

All of this would not have been possible without your support. Yet there is so much more to do. Many more children need your help. Many more schools need new roofs or floors. In 2011, we would like to do more to help. Please join us in this journey. We believe that together, we can make a difference!

Moegyo Activity Update

During the water-shortage crisis in Myanmar, the Moegyo team donated 500,000 Ks to the Searchers-Myanmar team to distribute plastic buckets that can store 20 gallons of rain water. 14 Volunteers from the Searchers-Myanmar team visited the following three villages in the Waw area in Bago Division:
(a) Kan Myint (East and West)
(b) Shan Su
(c) Mayl Zale Kone

According to the Searchers-Myanmar team, some areas are still reporting water shortage even when the rain has started. The Moegyo team will continue to monitor the reports and will partner with volunteers and the able groups such as Searchers-Myanmar to provide assistance and funds as needed.

As you know, the Moegyo was founded during the initial days of Cyclone Nargis in May 2008 where Moegyo volunteers provided support to victims delivering medicine, food and supplies and participated in the various rebuilding projects in the Nargis area. Currently, we are focusing on assisting the orphanages in Myanmar and sponsoring various projects needed by the orphanages.

Please find attached file on the projects and activities sponsored since Nargis:
